Context
To-do lists are a great way to record things that you have to do, but they’re not very good at incentivising completion of harder tasks. All items on the list are equal in their weighting, even though some tasks may take seconds, and others hours.
Solution
To create an app that allows you to assign time to each task, thus giving you an accurate representation of how far through a list you are and give credit to those harder tasks.
Working together with my friend, Rob Penny, we designed Percentify, an app which was simple yet visually striking. We wanted others to know that you’re doing well with your lists just from a short glance at your phone. We later had to rename our app to Roundly due to a naming dispute.
Product Design
We had a really simple onboarding flow that guided the user through the concept of the app and how it was different from other to-do list apps.
List progression is represented by a circular progress bar, as well as the background colour.
As you make progress in your list the progress bar advances and the background colour changes to a more vibrant pink.
The list view was kept as simple as possible. Using slide gestures on the task items you could reorder them and swipe them to complete them.
As you completed tasks they would grey out and advance the bar and background colour. They would still be visible so you could swipe them back into play if required.
Summary
This was a great experience in feature prioritisation, as well as the overall experience of developing an iOS app and releasing it onto the App Store.
